Stone & tile waterjet cutting with TamCut
TamCut enables accurate and flexible waterjet cutting of stone, tiles and stone-based materials with a compact industrial machine. Cut flat shapes, holes, openings and detailed 2D contours without heat, mechanical blade contact or material-specific cutting tools.
Overview
Flexible cutting for stone, tiles and special shapes
TamCut is suitable for many stone and tile cutting applications where flexibility, clean shapes and internal openings are important. Abrasive waterjet cutting is especially useful when parts require holes, cut-outs, curves or non-standard geometries that are difficult or costly to produce with conventional cutting methods.
Because waterjet cutting is a cold cutting process, the material is not exposed to thermal stress during cutting. This makes the method useful for flat stone and tile parts, prototypes, special shapes and small production batches.

Cutting speeds
Example cutting speeds
Please note
For tolerance-critical or unfamiliar metals we recommend a test cut with your own material before making production decisions
| Material | Thickness | Example cutting speed |
|---|---|---|
| Ceramic tile | 3 mm | approx. 800–1100 mm/min |
| Ceramic tile | 10 mm | approx. 200–300 mm/min |
| Ceramic tile | 20 mm | approx. 70–110 mm/min |
| Stone | 5 mm | approx. 300–450 mm/min |
| Stone | 18 mm | approx. 45–60 mm/min |
| Stone | 30 mm | approx. 18–25 mm/min |
Who uses Tamcut
Who uses TamCut for stone and tile cutting?
Tile and stone workshops
TamCut helps workshops produce special shapes, cut-outs, decorative details and custom parts without relying only on manual cutting or external suppliers.
Interior and construction companies
Companies working with interiors, renovation or construction can use TamCut for custom tile details, openings, inserts and special flat parts.
Production teams
TamCut helps production teams manufacture prototypes, single parts and small batches from stone and tile materials in-house when flexibility and short lead times are needed.
Maintenance teams
Maintenance and repair teams can use TamCut to produce replacement pieces, custom inserts and special flat parts when standard components are not available.
R&D and laboratories
TamCut is suitable for testing stone-based, ceramic or composite materials when different shapes and sample geometries need to be produced flexibly.
Product development teams
TamCut helps product development teams move faster from drawing to physical part when testing new stone, tile or ceramic product concepts.
Applications
Typical stone and tile applications
Custom tile shapes
Cut non-standard tile shapes, curves and special details directly from a drawing without dedicated cutting tools.
Holes and openings
Produce holes, internal openings, slots and cut-outs for technical, decorative or installation-related needs.
Prototypes
Cut prototype parts from tile, stone or stone-based materials to test shapes, layouts and design changes.
Single parts
Produce one-off stone or tile parts when only one or a few custom pieces are needed.
Small production batches
TamCut supports low-volume production where flexibility and non-standard geometries are more important than high-volume cutting speed.
Decorative flat parts
Cut detailed flat shapes, inserts and decorative elements from suitable stone and tile materials.
Honest fit
Best fit for TamCut stone and tile cutting
TamCut is a strong fit when you need flexible in-house cutting for different flat stone, tile and ceramic parts.
Best suited for
TamCut is a strong fit
TamCut is a strong fit when you need flexible in-house cutting for many different materials and flat part geometries.
- Custom tile shapes
- Holes and internal cut-outs
- Prototypes
- Single parts
- Small batches
- Decorative flat parts
- Stone and tile test pieces
- Applications where outsourcing causes long lead times
When another method may be better
Consider another process
TamCut is a strong fit when you need flexible in-house cutting for different flat stone, tile and ceramic parts.
- High-volume straight tile cutting
- Very large stone slabs beyond TamCut’s cutting area
- Thick or heavy stone parts that require large industrial stone-processing equipment
- Polished decorative edges without further finishing
- Materials with high brittleness or internal defects without process validation
- Jobs where bridge saws, tile saws or CNC stone machines are clearly faster or more cost-efficient
Why it works
Why waterjet cutting works well for stone and tiles
Seven properties of the process explain why one machine can handle steel, glass, rubber and carbon fiber alike.
01
No heat or thermal stress
Waterjet cutting is a cold cutting process. Stone and tile materials are not exposed to high cutting temperatures, which helps avoid thermal stress caused by the cutting process.
02
Suitable for holes and internal contours
Waterjet cutting makes it possible to create holes, openings, slots and internal shapes directly from a drawing without dedicated tooling.
03
No mechanical blade contact with the cut path
The cutting is done by an abrasive waterjet rather than a saw blade. This enables flexible cutting of flat shapes, openings and special geometries.
04
Good fit for non-standard shapes
TamCut is especially useful when standard straight cutting is not enough and the part requires curves, openings or custom flat contours.
05
Flexible production without dedicated tooling
The same machine can cut different part geometries directly from a drawing, making TamCut well suited for prototypes, single parts and small batches.
06
Supports in-house flexibility
TamCut helps reduce outsourcing and gives more control over lead times, prototyping and special part production.
07
Important note on material suitability
Stone, tile and ceramic materials vary significantly depending on composition, thickness, brittleness, surface finish, internal structure and required edge quality. Some materials may chip more easily than others, and edge quality depends on material type, geometry and cutting parameters.
For demanding, expensive or unfamiliar stone and tile materials, we recommend a test cut before production.
