Metal waterjet cutting with TamCut
TamCut enables accurate and flexible waterjet cutting of metals with a compact industrial machine. Cut shapes, holes, openings and detailed flat parts without heat-affected zones, thermal distortion or material-specific cutting tools.
Overview
Flexible in-house cutting for different metals
TamCut is suitable for cutting a wide range of metals, including steel, stainless steel, aluminium, copper, brass and titanium. Abrasive waterjet cutting is especially useful when parts require accurate shapes, internal contours, holes or low-volume production flexibility.
Because the process does not rely on heat or a mechanical blade, TamCut can be used for many metal cutting applications where laser, milling, sawing or outsourcing may not be the most flexible solution.

Cutting speeds
Example cutting speeds
Please note
For tolerance-critical or unfamiliar metals we recommend a test cut with your own material before making production decisions
| Material | Thickness | Example cutting speed |
|---|---|---|
| Aluminium | 3 mm | approx. 500–700 mm/min |
| Steel / stainless steel | 3 mm | approx. 200–300 mm/min |
| Steel / stainless steel | 5 mm | approx. 80–180 mm/min |
| Brass | 5 mm | approx. 180–240 mm/min |
| Aluminium | 10 mm | approx. 140–220 mm/min |
| Steel / stainless steel | 15 mm | approx. 15–35 mm/min |
| Aluminium | 20 mm | approx. 35–70 mm/min |
| Steel / stainless steel | 30 mm | approx. 10 mm/min |
Who uses Tamcut
Who uses TamCut for metal cutting?
Production teams
TamCut helps production teams manufacture prototypes, single parts and small batches in-house. This can reduce outsourcing, shorten lead times and improve flexibility when part designs change.
Maintenance teams
Maintenance and repair teams can use TamCut to produce brackets, plates, covers, spacers, support parts and replacement components when they are needed.
R&D and laboratories
TamCut is well suited for research, development and material testing environments where different metals, part geometries and test specimens need to be produced flexibly.
Education and research
For schools, universities and technical training centres, TamCut provides a compact way to demonstrate waterjet cutting, material processing and digital manufacturing workflows.
Machine shops
Machine shops can use TamCut as a flexible cutting tool alongside milling, turning, laser cutting or subcontracting. It is especially useful for flat parts, prototypes and mixed-material work.
Product development teams
TamCut helps product development teams move faster from drawing to physical part, without waiting for external suppliers or dedicated tooling.
Applications
Typical metal applications
Prototypes
Cut prototype parts from different metals without dedicated tooling. This makes it easier to test shapes, materials and design changes quickly.
Single parts
Produce one-off metal parts, brackets, covers, spacers and small components in-house when they are needed.
Small production batches
TamCut supports low-volume metal production where flexibility, short lead times and material versatility are more important than high-volume automation.
Holes and cut-outs
Cut holes, slots, openings and internal contours directly from a drawing. This is useful for panels, covers, fixtures, brackets and technical metal parts.
Complex flat shapes
TamCut can cut detailed flat shapes and irregular 2D geometries without changing tools. This gives more freedom in part design compared with many traditional cutting methods.
Maintenance parts
For maintenance and repair teams, TamCut can help produce replacement parts, support plates, covers, spacers and other small metal components in-house.

When another method may be better
Consider another process
TamCut is not intended to replace every cutting method. In some cases, another process may be more suitable.
- High-volume mass production
- Very high cutting speeds in simple thin sheet parts
- Applications requiring automatic 3D cutting
- Parts requiring extremely tight tolerances without process validation
- Very large parts beyond TamCut’s cutting area
- Jobs where laser, punching, milling, die cutting or sawing is clearly faster and more cost-efficient
Why it works
Why waterjet works for many materials
Five properties of the process explain why one machine can handle steel, glass, rubber and carbon fiber alike.
01
Cold cutting process
Waterjet cutting is a cold cutting process. No significant heat is generated during cutting, which helps preserve the material’s original properties and reduces the risk of thermal damage.
02
No heat-affected zone
Because the material is not exposed to high cutting temperatures, there is no heat-affected zone. This is especially important for metals, plastics, composites and other materials where heat can affect strength, structure or appearance.
03
No burning or melting
Waterjet cutting does not burn, melt or harden the material during cutting. This makes it suitable for materials that are sensitive to heat, such as plastics, rubber, composites, glass and certain coated or layered materials.
04
No material-specific cutting tool
The same waterjet cutting process can be used for a wide range of materials. There is no need for a separate blade, saw, drill or milling tool for each material, which makes TamCut flexible for changing production needs.
05
Ideal for prototypes and small batches
TamCut is well suited for prototypes, single parts and small production batches. Different materials and part geometries can be cut with the same machine, helping reduce outsourcing, shorten lead times and improve in-house flexibility.

Not sure if your metal is suitable?
Metal cutting performance depends on material type, thickness, part geometry, required edge quality and the number of piercings. For demanding materials or unfamiliar applications, we recommend a test cut to confirm cutting quality, speed and suitability.
